Atlanta, Ga. – Morning drivers across north and central Georgia faced patches of dense fog Friday, with visibility expected to improve by midmorning. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City warned that thunderstorms could linger into tonight, bringing bursts of heavy rain, gusty winds, and dangerous lightning.

According to the NWS, stronger storms are most likely east of Atlanta into central Georgia, where frequent lightning and localized downpours could cause hazardous travel. Scattered showers will continue through late evening before drier conditions return overnight.

Saturday brings another round of storms, especially across eastern portions of the state. While not everyone will see severe weather, some storms could quickly intensify, leading to flash flooding in low-lying areas and downed tree limbs. By Sunday, skies are expected to clear, offering a drier stretch into early next week.

Travelers are advised to allow extra time on wet roads, avoid driving through standing water, and secure outdoor items ahead of potential wind gusts. Spotters are encouraged to report any severe weather to the National Weather Service.

Storm chances taper by Wednesday, but scattered showers could redevelop midweek.
