North Georgia Mountains – Light snow showers are possible across the north Georgia mountains from Wednesday night into Thursday morning as colder air moves into the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, rain showers are expected to transition to snow across portions of the north Georgia mountains beginning around 7 p.m. Wednesday, continuing through approximately 10 a.m. Thursday. The changeover will occur as a cold front pushes through the area overnight.
Forecasters say snow accumulations are expected to remain light, generally ranging from a trace to 0.5 inch, with the greatest chances at elevations above 2,000 feet. Accumulation is most likely on elevated surfaces and grassy areas, though bridges and overpasses could become slippery, even where snowfall remains minimal.
The Weather Service noted that minor travel impacts are possible, particularly during the overnight and early morning hours. Drivers traveling through mountain passes or higher terrain should be alert for slick spots, especially on untreated roads.
Communities that could be affected include areas near Blue Ridge, Blairsville, Clayton, and Helen, as well as other higher-elevation locations across the north Georgia mountains.
No winter weather advisories were issued with this update, and widespread disruptions are not expected. However, officials recommend monitoring forecasts closely in case temperatures drop faster than expected or snow persists longer into Thursday morning.
Residents and travelers are encouraged to use caution overnight, reduce speed on slick roads, and remain aware of changing conditions through Thursday morning.
