Atlanta, GA – Persistent dry conditions and low humidity are prompting a Fire Danger Statement across portions of north and east-central Georgia through 8 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.

Forecasters report relative humidity levels between 20–25%, dry vegetation, and north winds of 5–10 mph, all of which could contribute to the rapid spread of any fires that develop. The affected area includes cities such as Atlanta, Rome, Gainesville, Athens, Macon, and Dublin.

Officials warn that even small outdoor fires could spread quickly and become difficult to control under these conditions. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, including debris fires and unattended grills, until conditions improve.

The elevated fire danger is expected to lessen overnight as humidity rises and winds weaken, but dry air is likely to persist into the weekend, keeping fire safety precautions essential.
