TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Drivers in Florida’s capital should prepare for slick conditions Sunday afternoon as thunderstorms develop across Leon County and beyond. The National Weather Service warns of heavy downpours and lightning beginning after 11 a.m., creating travel hazards on U.S. 90 and Interstate 10.

According to forecasters, rainfall amounts could reach up to half an inch in some neighborhoods. The storm chance sits near 50 percent Sunday afternoon, before clearing late in the evening. Patchy morning fog may also reduce visibility early, especially in low-lying areas.

Residents should allow extra travel time, avoid flooded intersections, and move indoors when thunder is heard. Outdoor plans across Tallahassee, including college move-ins and local events, may face delays or cancellations.

Temperatures remain warm, with a high near 89 Sunday before climbing into the low 90s Monday. Drier air arrives by Tuesday, bringing sunshine and calmer conditions through midweek.

North Florida’s week ahead features a mix of storms and sun. While Sunday carries the greatest risk for severe weather, lingering showers could return by Thursday and Friday.

Officials urge residents to stay alert for additional advisories, particularly if thunderstorms intensify or flood-prone areas become overwhelmed.
