Tallahassee, FL – A surge of Gulf moisture is moving into North Florida, setting up a wet and stormy stretch to close out the week. After a mostly sunny Thursday, clouds will thicken and steady rain will spread across the region by Friday morning, lasting through Saturday evening with locally heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, rain chances rise sharply to 70–90% Friday and Saturday, with 1 to 2 inches of rain expected across Leon and surrounding counties. The heaviest downpours could lead to brief ponding on area roadways, particularly along I-10 and U.S. 319, where water tends to collect during prolonged showers.

Winds from the southeast will remain light, but saturated ground and reduced visibility could make driving difficult during the Friday evening commute. Residents should secure outdoor decorations, check drainage areas, and use headlights when driving through rain.

Temperatures will stay mild — highs near 71°F Friday and 66°F Saturday — before drier, cooler air returns Sunday with highs in the mid-60s. Early next week, sunshine and slightly warmer afternoons are expected, offering a break before another potential front approaches midweek.

Keep rain gear handy and plan for extra travel time — Florida’s early December pattern is bringing a damp reminder that winter in the South often starts with rain before the chill.
