Tallahassee, Florida – Dangerous heat is gripping the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend regions Tuesday as a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. ET, with feels-like temperatures soaring as high as 112°F.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, the advisory impacts nearly all Florida counties in the region as well as the southern row of Georgia counties. Heat indices are expected to climb between 108° and 112° in the hardest-hit zones, while neighboring parts of Georgia and southeast Alabama may see heat indices between 104° and 107°.
Cities including Tallahassee, Marianna, Blountstown, and Bainbridge, Georgia, are all under the advisory. Afternoon highs will range from 94° to 98°, but humidity will make conditions significantly more dangerous. Officials urge residents to stay indoors during peak heat hours, avoid strenuous activity, and ensure pets and elderly neighbors are kept cool and hydrated.
Anyone without access to air conditioning is encouraged to seek cooling centers or public buildings. Even short periods outdoors can lead to heat-related illness.
Rain chances increase and slightly cooler air returns Wednesday, though additional advisories remain possible if high temperatures persist.
