Flemington, Fla. – Heavy rain has triggered a Flood Advisory for Marion County this morning, with minor flooding possible in low-lying neighborhoods and poorly drained roads, especially near Flemington.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dumping between one and one-and-a-half inches of rain by 8:20 a.m. Another half inch is expected before the advisory expires at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. Residents in Marion County, particularly in Flemington, should watch for rising water in low spots and avoid roads with standing water.

Minor flooding is ongoing or may develop quickly in ditches, culverts, and areas where drainage is already limited. Commuters should use caution along local routes and consider alternate travel plans if roads are waterlogged. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains critical advice, as most flood-related fatalities in Florida occur in vehicles.

Emergency crews and local agencies are monitoring the situation and may extend advisories if storms persist. Anyone in flood-prone areas should move vehicles to higher ground and check alerts for updates.

The Flood Advisory remains in effect until at least 9:15 a.m. More storms are possible later this week, so keep weather apps and alerts handy for the latest updates.
