Tallahassee, FL – A late-season cold snap is set to grip North Florida overnight, with several hours of freezing temperatures likely to impact inland communities before sunrise Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, most inland counties across the Florida Panhandle and adjacent South Georgia will see temperatures at or below 32 degrees from roughly 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday. A new Freeze Warning is expected after the current advisory expires, with the coldest readings clustering around sunrise.
Communities including Tallahassee, Bainbridge, Valdosta, and Dothan could dip to near 30 degrees, while colder pockets like Cross City may briefly fall into the upper 20s. Panama City and coastal areas should remain slightly warmer but still face chilly early morning conditions. Light winds may limit widespread frost, though patchy frost remains possible in sheltered areas.
Residents should take steps now to protect exposed pipes, bring pets indoors, and cover sensitive plants. Opening cabinet doors and disconnecting outdoor hoses can help reduce the risk of pipe damage. Check on elderly neighbors and prepare for a cold start to the morning commute.
Cold conditions ease after sunrise Wednesday, but additional advisories could follow if temperatures trend lower than expected overnight.
