Grand Forks, ND – A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 3 p.m. today, bringing dangerous travel conditions and extreme wind chills across northeast North Dakota. Gusty winds reaching 40 mph are causing blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility along major routes, including US-2.

According to the National Weather Service, visibility in open areas may drop to as little as half a mile. Wind chills of -35°F could cause frostbite in minutes for exposed skin, especially during the morning hours. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and dress in layers to stay warm.

Monday will bring slight relief, with highs nearing 3°F in Grand Forks. However, wind chills will remain dangerously low at -27°F. Tuesday is expected to warm up slightly, with highs near 3°F under mostly sunny skies. Winds will shift southward by evening, reaching 21 mph.

By Wednesday, conditions improve significantly, with partly sunny skies and a high of 34°F, though roads may still be slick from earlier snow. Travelers should monitor updates on road conditions at 511 or local transportation resources.

For the latest on weather impacts, stay tuned to local forecasts and limit travel during peak hazardous conditions.
