Grand Forks, ND – A winter storm watch is in effect for north-central North Dakota, including the Devils Lake Basin and surrounding areas, starting Tuesday afternoon. Residents along the US Highway 2 corridor should prepare for hazardous travel conditions, as rain transitions to snow and gusty winds create blowing snow.

According to the National Weather Service, the watch begins at noon Tuesday and lasts until 6 p.m. Wednesday. Snow accumulation is expected to be moderate, with a 60% chance of significant impacts. Gusts of up to 46 mph may reduce visibility, especially Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Commuters should exercise caution and plan for delays during peak storm hours.

The combination of icy roadways and blowing snow may affect travel on major routes, including US Highway 2 and smaller county roads in Ramsey, Cavalier, and Towner counties. Officials advise drivers to check road conditions before traveling and to carry emergency supplies.

Temperatures will plummet following the storm, with highs dropping to the low 20s by Thursday. Tuesday will see rain transitioning to snow by late afternoon, while overnight conditions bring a mix of blowing snow and freezing winds. Wednesday morning will continue to be hazardous, with patchy blowing snow and wind gusts reaching 37 mph.

Looking ahead, calmer weather is expected by Thursday, with partly sunny skies and highs near 24°F. Friday remains cold, with temperatures barely reaching the low 20s.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on changing conditions and heed travel advisories. For the latest information, visit local weather resources and monitor updates from the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
