Fargo, North Dakota – Relentless overnight downpours have drenched southeastern North Dakota and neighboring western Minnesota, stranding drivers and flooding low-lying roads early Wednesday. According to the North Dakota Ag Weather Network (NDAWN), rainfall totals topped 3.8 inches near Casselton, 3.6 inches in Sabin, and over 3 inches around Wolverton and Rothsay, Minnesota, with Fargo/NDSU recording 2.47 inches and Ada, Minnesota, seeing more than 1.5 inches.

Motorists from Fargo to Lisbon and Milnor are reporting ponding on highways and reduced visibility, especially along stretches of I-94 and rural routes. Cass County, ND, and Clay County, MN, saw widespread street flooding and slowdowns for the morning commute. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid driving through standing water and to check for local road closures as additional showers linger through Wednesday. Some communities in southeast North Dakota, including Ayr, Fingal, and Milnor, reported more than two inches of rainfall, with localized flooding near streams and urban areas.

With more rain possible, power outages and basement flooding may occur in the hardest-hit areas. Residents are advised to charge phones, clear storm drains, and monitor alerts as the risk of flash flooding persists. Further updates and advisories may be issued if storms redevelop or totals increase through midweek.
