Grand Forks, ND – A weekend weather shift will bring a mix of light snow and freezing rain across parts of North Dakota, with the highest impacts expected from Saturday morning through late Sunday, particularly in areas near and north of Highway 2.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a frontal boundary on Friday will create a sharp temperature divide across the state, with wintry precipitation likely north of the highway and chances of light rain farther south. Winds from the east will range between 15 to 25 mph, pushing colder air into the region. Morning lows Friday could dip to 26°F, while highs vary dramatically from 35°F in the north to 55°F in southern zones.
By Saturday, snow chances will increase to 20–30% across much of northeast North Dakota. Morning lows are forecast between 21°F and 28°F, with daytime highs climbing only into the lower 30s. Overnight into Sunday, light snow may spread into west-central Minnesota, driven by sustained north winds up to 30 mph.
Residents are encouraged to monitor changing forecasts, especially if traveling across the region. Prepare for potential icy road conditions and keep winter driving kits in vehicles. More precise snow totals will depend on the final track of a second low-pressure system expected to enter the area Sunday.
