Grand Forks, ND – A dramatic drop in temperatures is coming this week, starting with near-record highs today in parts of North Dakota. However, much cooler weather is expected by Friday and Saturday, along with widespread rain that could linger into Friday.
According to the National Weather Service, highs in the 80s and 90s across the state will be replaced by highs in the 50s and 60s by Friday. Areas like Fargo, Grand Forks, and Cando will feel the biggest shift, as temperatures will plummet into the 50s by the weekend. Overnight lows are expected to dip to the mid-30s in some regions, with frost a possibility depending on cloud cover.
The upcoming cold snap follows a warm stretch, with temperatures in the 90s today and tomorrow. Heavy rain is anticipated to move in Wednesday night, continuing through Thursday and Friday, bringing much-needed precipitation to the region. This rain may cause localized flooding and complicate outdoor plans, so residents should stay prepared for changing conditions.
Frost is also a concern this weekend, particularly in rural areas, so gardeners and farmers should take precautions by covering plants or bringing them indoors.
Warnings and advisories remain in effect as temperatures continue to fluctuate throughout the week, with updates expected by midweek.
