GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A quiet, fog-shrouded start greeted eastern North Dakota early Saturday as dense mist blanketed stretches west of the Red River Valley. That calm won’t last long. A stronger system building from the Plains will bring gusty winds Sunday and widespread showers by Monday, signaling a wet and windy turn before Halloween week settles in.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, areas of dense fog will lift midmorning, giving way to sunny skies and mild air today. Temperatures will rise to the low 60s, with a steady south wind gusting 25 to 30 mph. By Sunday, clouds thicken as a warm front sweeps north, pulling highs into the low 60s again but with increasing breezes—gusts may reach 35 mph by afternoon.

Showers will spread across the region late Sunday into Monday, with the heaviest rain expected along and east of the Red River. Rainfall totals may reach a quarter to half an inch. Commuters along U.S. 2 and I-29 should prepare for wet pavement and lower visibility during the Monday morning drive.

By Tuesday, cooler air filters in from the northwest, dropping highs to the mid-50s with scattered light showers before skies clear midweek. Halloween looks dry and chilly, with 40s by dusk and calm conditions for trick-or-treaters.

After all, a chilly November is closing in fast.
