GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A stretch of wet, unsettled fall weather is setting up across the Red River Valley, with multiple rounds of showers expected from Wednesday night through Friday. Light rain will begin spreading into East Grand Forks by late Wednesday evening, potentially leading to damp commutes and slick rural roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, rain chances climb above 70 percent Wednesday night and remain high through Thursday and Friday. Winds from the southeast will pick up midweek, gusting near 20 mph before turning southwest and strengthening by Friday. Showers could be locally heavier in isolated thunderstorms Thursday afternoon.

By Friday night, temperatures will dip into the lower 40s as skies remain mostly cloudy. The persistent cloud cover and on-and-off rain will keep highs capped near the upper 50s to low 60s through the weekend. The system’s slow movement means roads along U.S. Highway 2 and I-29 may stay wet for long periods, though no flooding impacts are currently expected.

Residents are advised to allow extra travel time, especially during the Thursday morning and evening drives. Outdoor workers and high school football teams should plan for damp turf and cooler air. Winds may gust up to 25 mph Friday, so lightweight decorations and trash bins should be secured.

According to forecasters, a drier pattern should emerge late Saturday into Sunday, offering a brief window of sunshine before clouds increase again early next week.
