Grand Forks, ND – Residents across eastern North Dakota and parts of western and northwestern Minnesota should prepare for severe weather today as thunderstorms move into the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, there is a 1 out of 5 risk of severe thunderstorms across much of eastern North Dakota and parts of Minnesota. Central North Dakota, including the Devils Lake Basin, faces a higher 2 out of 5 risk, with storms expected to intensify this afternoon and evening.

Forecasters warn that hazards may include isolated tornadoes, hail up to one inch in diameter, and wind gusts reaching 70 miles per hour. The storms are expected to form late Sunday afternoon and could persist into the evening and early overnight hours.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts closely and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. The NWS recommends securing outdoor items, staying indoors during storms, and being prepared for sudden changes in conditions.

Travelers across Interstates 29 and 94, as well as U.S. Highway 2 near Devils Lake, may experience delays or hazardous driving conditions if storms develop as predicted.
