Grand Forks, N.D. – Scattered thunderstorms are expected across eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota today, with the Red River Valley seeing the highest chances by evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, precipitation probabilities will rise through Monday afternoon, peaking between 45% and 65% across towns like Hallock, Thief River Falls, and Bemidji. Isolated lightning and brief downpours are possible, though the severe threat today remains low. Areas west of the valley, such as Cooperstown and Devils Lake, may see lower storm chances through the day.

Looking ahead, all eyes turn to the 4th of July. The NWS warns that thunderstorm chances will increase significantly by late Thursday afternoon into the evening, with a risk of severe weather across the region. South winds between 12–25 mph will shift northwest overnight, and daytime highs will climb into the upper 80s.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts closely and consider alternate outdoor plans for Independence Day celebrations. Those traveling or hosting events outdoors should remain weather-aware and be prepared to move indoors if storms develop.

Storm monitoring will continue throughout the week as weather conditions evolve.
