Grand Forks, ND – Strong thunderstorms could roll into eastern North Dakota by midday Tuesday, bringing damaging winds and large hail to the region. Drivers along Highway 2 and residents in Grand Forks should prepare for potential disruptions starting late morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, there’s a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms developing Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. South winds may gust to 30 mph, while the biggest hazards include wind damage and hail up to one inch in diameter.

Tuesday night will bring calmer conditions with mostly clear skies and lows around 56°F. Looking ahead, another round of strong storms could return by Thursday with a medium chance for severe weather through Saturday.

The Juneteenth holiday (Wednesday night into Thursday) may see scattered showers and a few strong evening storms. Winds may gust as high as 29 mph on Thursday. Prepare now by charging electronics, securing outdoor items, and reviewing emergency plans.
