Fargo, N.D. – Residents across eastern North Dakota should brace for severe thunderstorms between 3 and 8 p.m. Monday, with hail up to 1.5 inches and wind gusts topping 60 mph expected to impact travel and outdoor activities.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, an upper-level low will track southeast toward Pembina, triggering scattered thunderstorms this afternoon. Some of these storms may become severe, particularly in areas like Fargo, Grand Forks, Valley City, and Devils Lake, where a Level 2 risk has been issued.
The most significant hazards include damaging winds capable of downing trees and power lines, and hail large enough to dent vehicles or damage crops. While the tornado risk is low, storm cells could intensify rapidly, making it vital for residents to stay alert.
Motorists are urged to delay travel during peak storm hours and secure outdoor items. Keep weather radios or alerts enabled on phones and prepare for possible power outages.
Storms are expected to taper off after 8 p.m., but the NWS may issue additional advisories as the system continues moving southeast.
