Grand Forks, North Dakota – Severe thunderstorms blasted across eastern and southeastern North Dakota early Saturday, toppling trees, damaging roofs, and pelting vehicles with quarter-size hail as 60 mph wind gusts surged through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks and Bismarck, multiple Severe Thunderstorm Warnings remain in effect until 3 AM CDT for parts of Benson, Nelson, Griggs, Ramsey, Eddy, Stutsman, Foster, Barnes, Cass, Steele, and Traill counties. Radar showed dangerous storms racing northeast at up to 50 mph, with hazards including hail, downed limbs, and the threat of flash flooding from torrential rainfall.

Cities hardest hit include Jamestown, Valley City, Cooperstown, Lakota, Carrington, and Hatton. The strongest cells hammered communities along Highway 2 and I-94, threatening property and making overnight travel hazardous. Residents in Spiritwood, McVille, Tolna, and surrounding towns are urged to move to interior rooms and avoid windows until the storms clear.

Wind damage to siding, trees, and power lines is likely. Motorists should avoid flooded roadways and expect possible delays or detours. Emergency crews may need time to clear debris and restore any power outages. Charge devices in case of prolonged outages, and keep an emergency kit nearby.

Storms are expected to exit the region by dawn, but isolated warnings could persist as the system tracks east. Stay tuned to local alerts and be prepared for additional advisories as this active weather pattern continues.
