Grand Forks, North Dakota – Low humidity and dry winds are raising wildfire concerns across eastern North Dakota today, especially in areas like Langdon and Cando, where highs will push into the 70s and 80s.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, relative humidity values are expected to drop into the mid-20 to low-30 percent range by this afternoon. Coupled with northeast and southeast winds ranging from 10 to 20 mph, these conditions could support near-critical fire weather through Wednesday evening.
Though not as intense as earlier in the week, the combination of dry air and gusty breezes remains enough to spark wildfires if outdoor burning rules aren’t followed. Residents are urged to avoid any open flames and to respect local burn bans currently in effect.
Langdon, Cando, and surrounding areas are most at risk, with afternoon highs ranging from 85 to 92 degrees. Afternoon activities involving machinery or outdoor work should be delayed or handled with extreme caution.
The fire weather concern will ease once humidity begins to recover overnight, but officials warn that dry patterns could return later this week. More updates are expected if conditions worsen.
