Grand Forks, N.D. – Residents across eastern North Dakota should prepare for a round of isolated severe thunderstorms late Sunday afternoon through early Monday morning. The storms could bring damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, hail as large as quarters, and a low chance for an isolated tornado.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the greatest risk will develop Sunday evening into the early overnight hours, especially in communities along the Red River Valley, including Fargo, Grand Forks, and Valley City. The overall threat level is considered low, but forecasters warn that any storm that does develop could produce brief but dangerous conditions.
Travelers on Interstate 29 and Highway 2 should be alert for sudden wind gusts and reduced visibility if storms move through. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices in case of power outages, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
The chance for severe weather diminishes by early Monday morning, but forecasters say additional updates may be issued if conditions become more favorable for storm development.
