Grand Forks, ND – A wintry mix is expected to bring icy conditions to the Devils Lake Basin and parts of northeastern North Dakota, with a significant chance of ice accumulation by Friday afternoon. According to the National Weather Service, areas such as Towner, Cavalier, and Pembina are at an 80% probability of seeing at least 0.01 inches of ice accumulation, while other regions within the basin face a lower, but still considerable, risk.

Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for a large portion of the affected areas. Specifically, the advisory will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday for Walsh, Ramsey, Benson, and several other counties in northeastern North Dakota. For Lake of the Woods and parts of northern Beltrami, the advisory will run until 7 p.m. Friday.

Officials warn that travel could become hazardous due to slick conditions on the roads. Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra time for travel as conditions worsen. Emergency preparedness and caution are advised as temperatures hover around freezing.
