Minot, ND – A band of freezing precipitation is expected to sweep across northwestern and north-central North Dakota early Friday, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory that could significantly affect morning travel in cities such as Minot, Williston, Bottineau, and surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, the advisory will be in effect from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT Friday. Forecasts indicate mixed precipitation with total ice accumulation of a few hundredths of an inch, accompanied by up to one inch of snow.

Hazardous travel conditions are expected throughout the morning, especially during rush hour. Slick roads and limited visibility may make driving treacherous along U.S. Highway 2 and regional routes near Parshall, Mohall, and Rolla. Commuters are advised to plan for delays and exercise caution when driving.

North Dakota typically experiences snow into late March, but even minimal ice can disrupt travel. Road conditions can be monitored by calling 511 or visiting ND DOT’s online travel map.

Residents should reduce speed, leave extra space between vehicles, and be prepared for icy sidewalks and parking lots. Minor accumulation may not seem severe but can still cause sudden vehicle slides or falls for pedestrians.
