Grand Forks, ND – Mixed freezing rain, sleet, and light snow are creating slick roads across Grand Forks and neighboring Minnesota towns Friday morning as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, precipitation began early Friday with temperatures hovering around freezing. Snow and sleet may accumulate to less than an inch, while ice could reach up to a tenth of an inch. Winds are gusting up to 35 mph, especially along the Manitoba border, increasing the risk of reduced visibility and dangerous travel on key roads like U.S. Highway 2 and I-29.

Residents are urged to drive cautiously and allow extra time for travel. Elevated surfaces, bridges, and untreated side streets may be particularly hazardous. Power outages or tree limb damage are not expected, but quick ice buildup could cause isolated traffic issues. No school closures have been reported as of this morning.

Looking ahead to the weekend, conditions will improve. Saturday brings mostly cloudy skies and a high near 36°F, followed by a low of 25°F Saturday night with a slight chance of snow. Sunday will be partly sunny with highs in the upper 30s and gusts up to 30 mph.

The five-day outlook shows a return of light snow Monday night into Tuesday. Temperatures will remain seasonally cold, with daytime highs in the mid-30s through midweek and overnight lows near 20°F.
