Grand Forks, N.D. – A slow-moving system lifting out of South Dakota is set to drench much of North Dakota and parts of west-central Minnesota through Saturday, raising concerns about travel and localized flooding in low-lying areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, bands of showers will spread north and east through tonight, with the heaviest rain focusing on southeast North Dakota and nearby Minnesota counties. Widespread showers will persist Friday before tapering off Saturday.
Forecasters say there is a greater than 90 percent chance of at least a half inch of rainfall across southeast North Dakota and west-central Minnesota by Saturday evening, with a 60–70 percent chance of seeing one inch or more. Cities including Fargo, Wahpeton, and Valley City could see the heaviest rainfall, while Grand Forks and Devils Lake will likely experience steady showers that may complicate commutes and outdoor plans.
Drivers are urged to watch for ponding on highways, particularly along I-29 and U.S. Highway 10. Residents should clear storm drains and prepare for slower travel times through Friday.
Rain chances diminish Saturday night, but additional advisories could follow if rainfall totals exceed expectations.
