Bismarck, N.D. – Very large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes could slam parts of central North Dakota Friday evening, with Bismarck and surrounding areas facing the highest risk of dangerous storms.

According to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, an Enhanced Risk for severe thunderstorms remains in effect through tonight across central and eastern North Dakota, including Fargo, Minot, and Jamestown. The greatest concern is hail larger than 3 inches in diameter, though gusts over 75 mph and a few tornadoes are also possible.

Storms are expected to organize late Friday afternoon and intensify through the evening hours. The threat zone includes U.S. Highway 83 and I-94, with travel disruptions likely in areas between Bismarck and Fargo. Eastern South Dakota, including Aberdeen, may also see severe impacts by nightfall.

Residents in the affected region should secure property, avoid outdoor activities, and stay tuned to local alerts. Mobile homes and high-profile vehicles are especially vulnerable to large hail and wind gusts.

Warnings may be upgraded as storms develop. Watches and advisories will be issued as needed.
