Grand Forks, N.D. – Heavy rain and dropping temperatures will impact much of eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota through the weekend, with a chance of frost in northern counties by Sunday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, showers and thunderstorms will increase late Wednesday night and continue through Thursday, followed by widespread rain Friday. Central North Dakota—including areas west of the Red River—could receive more than an inch of rainfall, with lighter amounts farther east.

Highs that reached the upper 80s Wednesday will plunge into the 50s by Friday and Saturday, with overnight lows dipping into the upper 30s across counties like Ramsey, Cavalier, and Towner. The coldest stretch is expected late Saturday into early Sunday, when clear skies could allow frost to develop near Langdon and Cando. Cloud cover will determine how far south frost risks extend.

Residents are advised to protect sensitive plants and outdoor equipment. Drivers should plan for wet roads and reduced visibility during rainfall, especially Friday.

Cooler-than-average conditions will persist into early next week. Additional advisories may be issued if frost threats expand southward or rainfall totals increase.
