Bismarck, N.D. – Dense fog is blanketing much of western and central North Dakota early Monday, sharply reducing visibility and creating hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 8 a.m. CDT (7 a.m. MDT) across a wide stretch of the state. Visibility has dropped to as low as a quarter mile in affected areas, including Bismarck, Minot, Williston, Dickinson, and Jamestown.

Travelers on I-94, US-83, and local rural routes should expect pockets of near-zero visibility through sunrise. The advisory also includes counties from Divide and Burke in the northwest to La Moure and Dickey in the southeast, impacting both major roadways and smaller communities.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain extra following distance during early morning travel. The fog is expected to gradually lift by mid-morning as temperatures rise.

While conditions are expected to improve after 8 a.m., localized fog patches may linger near bodies of water and in low-lying areas. Additional advisories may be issued if fog redevelops overnight.
