Grand Forks, ND – North Dakota residents face dangerous wind chills as low as -50°F today, but relief is on the way later this week. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued an extreme cold warning for Grand Forks and surrounding areas, in effect until noon Tuesday, with a cold weather advisory starting at 9 p.m. Tuesday and lasting until 10 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the NWS, wind chills between -40°F and -50°F could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, wear layers, and cover exposed skin if outside. Wind chills will gradually improve to -15°F to -25°F by Tuesday evening, with temperatures rising further into the week.
Wednesday will see increasing clouds and highs near 4°F, with wind chills still dipping below zero. Sunshine returns Thursday with a high near 10°F, and by Friday, temperatures in Grand Forks are expected to reach 23°F. A warming trend will continue into the weekend, with highs nearing 40°F by Saturday. Residents should remain cautious through midweek but can expect milder conditions by the weekend as the arctic front moves out.
