Grand Forks, N.D. – Breezy conditions and fast-moving showers could make for a blustery weekend across eastern North Dakota as a fall front approaches. Residents around Grand Forks and East Grand Forks should brace for wet roads, gusty winds, and cooler air by Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a developing low-pressure system will push through the region starting Saturday evening, bringing scattered showers and gusts up to 35 mph. Travel along U.S. Highway 2 and Interstate 29 could be affected by reduced visibility and slick spots as the system moves east. Motorists are urged to secure loose outdoor items and use caution on bridges and open stretches where winds could be strongest.

Saturday’s highs will reach the upper 60s before falling into the low 50s as clouds thicken. By Sunday, showers and possible isolated thunderstorms could develop, followed by cooler, breezy air and highs near 71°F before dropping sharply into the 30s Sunday night. The region’s first strong taste of mid-October chill is expected early next week, signaling the season’s shift toward frost-friendly mornings.

Fall colors remain vibrant across the Red River Valley, but leaf-peepers should plan early outings Saturday before rain arrives. Drier, calmer weather returns by Columbus Day, offering a good window for outdoor cleanup or late-season decorating.
