GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Frost still clings to rooftops and windshields early Wednesday morning across the Red River Valley, but change is in the air. The chill that’s gripped both sides of the North Dakota–Minnesota border will ease by week’s end as a warmer, breezier pattern builds into the weekend — one that could end with a round of late-Sunday showers.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, today stays partly sunny and crisp, with highs near 48 degrees and light north winds. Lows tonight will dip into the upper 20s under mostly clear skies. Thursday marks the turning point, with milder air drifting in from the south and afternoon highs climbing into the upper 40s to near 50.

By Friday, highs will jump into the mid-50s under mostly sunny skies, followed by a breezy and much warmer Saturday. Winds could gust 25 to 30 mph along the I-29 corridor as highs reach the low 60s — a near 30-degree swing from the start of the week.

The mild air won’t last. Forecasters expect clouds and a 40 to 50 percent chance of showers late Sunday into Monday, signaling a shift toward cooler, unsettled weather next week.

Residents are encouraged to finish yard cleanup and outdoor repairs by Saturday before the pattern turns damp again. After all, early signs of the winter transition are starting to appear across the northern Plains — brisk mornings, gusty fronts, and that unmistakable edge in the evening air.
