Bismarck, North Dakota – Snow begins spreading across North Dakota within hours, setting up two rounds of accumulating snowfall that could disrupt travel statewide through Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, the first round develops Wednesday and continues into Thursday, bringing 2 to 6 inches across central and southern areas, including Bismarck, Linton, and Jamestown. Eastern cities like Fargo could see 2 to 5 inches, while lighter totals stay north near Minot and Bottineau.
Road conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly Wednesday night into the Thursday morning commute, especially along I-94 from Dickinson through Bismarck to Fargo, where snow-covered roads and reduced visibility may slow travel.
A second, more impactful round arrives late Thursday night into Friday and continues through Saturday. There is a 70% to near 100% chance of at least 4 inches across southern and eastern North Dakota, with the highest impacts expected near Jamestown, Fargo, and Lisbon. Gusty winds could produce blowing snow, further reducing visibility.
Drivers are urged to allow extra stopping distance, avoid sudden braking, and check ND Roads before heading out. Conditions may remain hazardous into early Saturday, with additional advisories likely as the system strengthens.
