Fargo, N.D. – Up to two inches of rain could drench parts of southeast North Dakota and west central Minnesota through early Friday morning, raising concerns for localized flooding and poor driving conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, widespread rainfall will begin Thursday afternoon and intensify through the evening hours, tapering off by Friday morning. The heaviest totals—between 1 to 2 inches—are likely in a zone stretching from Wahpeton and Valley City eastward through Fergus Falls, Wadena, and Saint Cloud. Some areas may see even higher localized amounts.
Motorists on Interstate 94 and Highway 10 should expect reduced visibility and ponding water, especially during the evening commute. Farther north, from Devils Lake through Grand Forks to Bemidji, rainfall amounts will be lighter—generally under a quarter inch—with little to no rain near the Canadian border.
Residents in the highlighted yellow zone should monitor local alerts, avoid flooded roads, and secure outdoor belongings. Rainfall may briefly overwhelm drainage systems in low-lying areas.
Rain is expected to end by late Friday morning, but more weather updates may follow if storm bands shift north.
