Grand Forks, ND – Snowfall combined with gusty winds will create dangerous travel conditions across the Devils Lake Basin through Saturday morning. The National Weather Service warns of reduced visibility and icy roads, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
According to the NWS Grand Forks, snow began moving into the region Friday night, accompanied by strong winds up to 39 mph. This combination is causing whiteout conditions, especially in open areas. Travelers on U.S. Highway 2 and local roads are advised to reduce speed, increase stopping distances, and avoid using cruise control.
Temperatures will remain frigid through the weekend, with lows reaching 6°F Saturday night and wind chills dipping further. Snow showers are expected to taper off by mid-morning Saturday, but gusty winds may continue to blow snow across roadways, sustaining hazardous conditions.
Looking ahead, Sunday offers some relief, with partly sunny skies and highs near 26°F. However, patchy blowing snow may persist in the morning. Monday is expected to bring calmer conditions, with temperatures climbing to 35°F, though wind gusts could still reach 29 mph.
Residents should stay updated through local forecasts and monitor road conditions before traveling. Ensure emergency kits are in vehicles, and be prepared for delays.
