Grand Forks, N.D. – Thunderstorms building across central North Dakota late Friday are racing east, bringing a growing risk of damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph through 1 a.m. Saturday. The threat zone stretches from Jamestown to Fargo and Grand Forks, with power outages and downed trees possible overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, isolated storms are forming into a larger complex, shifting southeast across the state. While the chance for quarter-sized hail is decreasing, the risk of severe straight-line winds is increasing significantly in areas highlighted in red on the NWS impact map.
Residents in Valley City, Wahpeton, and Lisbon should prepare for rapid changes in weather conditions. Travel could become hazardous due to sudden wind gusts, falling debris, and reduced visibility. Officials urge residents to secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel until the storms pass.
Make sure to have multiple reliable ways to receive warnings. Stay indoors away from windows and charge electronic devices in case of power disruptions.
More updates may be issued as the storm complex continues to evolve.
