North Dakota Semi-Truck Crash on I-94 Leaves One Dead Thursday

Valley City, ND – A 37-year-old South Dakota man died Thursday afternoon when his semi-truck veered off Interstate 94 west of Valley City.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 4:41 p.m. near mile marker 276. Investigators said the 2007 Peterbilt semi-truck was traveling eastbound when it left the roadway, entered a ditch, crossed a slough and came to rest roughly 200–300 yards into a cornfield.

Authorities reported that the driver, from Hudson, S.D., was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident. Emergency responders from the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office, Valley City Fire Department and Valley City Ambulance Service assisted at the scene. The man was transported to Mercy Hospital in Valley City, where he later died from his injuries.

Weather and road conditions were described as dry at the time of the crash. Officials said no other vehicles were involved.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
