Fargo, N.D. – Widespread rain is soaking eastern North Dakota today, with the heaviest downpours likely to continue through Tuesday morning and early afternoon. Some areas, including Fargo, Wahpeton and Valley City, have a more than 80% chance of seeing 1 inch or more of rainfall by 1 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the highest probabilities for significant rainfall are focused on the southern Red River Valley and west-central Minnesota. Cities such as Wahpeton (91% chance), Fargo (84%), and Detroit Lakes (74%) are likely to see continued moderate to heavy showers through this evening. Cooler temperatures in the 40s, combined with steady east winds at 10 to 25 mph, will add to the raw feel throughout the day.
Motorists should expect wet roads and reduced visibility, particularly during the morning and evening commutes. Minor flooding is possible in low-lying areas and near poorly drained intersections. Residents are encouraged to check storm drains, avoid driving through standing water, and keep umbrellas and rain gear handy.
Lighter totals are expected in the north, where towns like Warroad, Baudette and Waskish may see little to no precipitation. Rain chances taper off overnight, but damp, cloudy conditions could persist into Wednesday morning.
