Fargo, ND – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through Tuesday night for eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota, where forecasters warn that snow and strong winds could cause hazardous driving conditions during one of the busiest Thanksgiving travel days of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, snow began early Tuesday and will continue through the evening, producing 2 to 6 inches of accumulation across west-central and northwestern Minnesota and 1 to 4 inches across eastern North Dakota. The advisory covers Grand Forks, Fargo, Moorhead, Detroit Lakes, Crookston, Bemidji, and Fergus Falls.

Wind gusts up to 40 mph are expected to create areas of blowing and drifting snow, especially on open highways and rural routes. Visibility may drop below one-half mile at times, and roads will become slick as temperatures fall below freezing by late afternoon.

Officials caution travelers to slow down and plan for extra travel time, especially during the evening commute. Motorists are urged to check 511mn.org or ND511.gov for updated road conditions and to keep emergency supplies—including food, water, and a flashlight—in their vehicles.

Conditions are expected to improve by Wednesday morning, though patchy blowing snow and slick spots may persist into early Thanksgiving Day.
