Grand Forks, ND – The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a Winter Storm Watch for large portions of eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota, in effect from Tuesday morning through late Tuesday night.

The system is expected to bring heavy snow, patchy blowing snow, and possible freezing rain, creating dangerous travel conditions across the region. Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph, reducing visibility in open areas and on rural highways.

The watch includes counties such as Cass, Grand Forks, Pembina, Traill, Ramsey, Barnes, and Steele in North Dakota, and Clay, Otter Tail, Becker, Beltrami, and Polk in Minnesota. Cities under the watch include Fargo, Grand Forks, Moorhead, Bemidji, Detroit Lakes, and Devils Lake.

According to the National Weather Service, travel may become difficult during both the morning and evening commutes on Tuesday, particularly in open country where blowing snow can drift across roads. A brief period of freezing rain may also occur before snow becomes the dominant precipitation type later in the day.

Residents across the Red River Valley are urged to monitor weather updates and prepare for potential travel disruptions, including slippery roads and reduced visibility. The NWS may upgrade this watch to a Winter Storm Warning as conditions become more certain.
