GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Power lines hum and tree limbs sway under sharp pre-dawn gusts across the Red River Valley. The region wakes to an active sky this morning as a Wind Advisory blankets parts of eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, winds will increase rapidly through mid-morning, reaching sustained speeds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts as high as 50 mph. The advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. CST, impacting travel along I-29, Highway 2, and other open rural stretches.

Drivers of high-profile vehicles — especially trucks and trailers — should use extreme caution. Loose outdoor objects and lightweight decorations could be tossed by gusts. Brief power interruptions are also possible in exposed areas as branches strain under the wind.

Skies will gradually clear by afternoon, and temperatures will climb toward 61°F before falling to the mid-30s tonight. Monday looks calmer and bright, with highs near the mid-50s under full sun — a brief, quiet break after today’s bluster.

Tuesday and Wednesday bring another round of cooler, mostly cloudy weather, with highs in the upper 40s and lows in the 30s. A slight chance of rain may develop by Thursday as a weak front pushes through, signaling the slow seasonal transition toward early winter.

For now, residents across Grand Forks and East Grand Forks can expect a gusty but manageable start to the first week of November, followed by calmer, cooler days ideal for cleanup and early holiday preparation.
