Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Snow continues to create hazardous travel conditions across parts of western Pennsylvania and nearby northern West Virginia, with several inches of accumulation expected before conditions improve late tonight and early Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. Sunday for Forest, Clarion, and Jefferson counties, where an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected. Roads in and around Punxsutawney, Clarion, Brookville, and Tionesta may remain slick through the overnight hours, especially on untreated surfaces.
Farther south and east, another advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday for the higher elevations of Westmoreland and Indiana counties, as well as portions of southwest Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia, including Fayette County and Preston and Tucker counties. Snow totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected in these areas, with the greatest impacts along ridgelines and mountain roads near Ohiopyle, Ligonier, Canaan Valley, Davis, and Parsons.
Snow-covered stretches of Route 119, Route 219, and secondary mountain roads may become slippery at times as snowfall continues. Officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check 511 for updated road conditions before traveling.
Snow is expected to taper later Saturday evening in the higher elevations and overnight farther north. While advisories are set to expire by Sunday morning, lingering slick spots could remain into the early commute, especially in shaded and elevated areas.
