Grand Forks, ND – Rain is moving into the Northern Plains this week, with widespread showers expected from Wednesday through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Forks.

Forecasters said moisture is pushing north from South Dakota into central and southeast North Dakota, as well as west-central Minnesota, beginning Wednesday afternoon and evening. The unsettled weather pattern is expected to persist across the region through Saturday.

According to the NWS, there is greater than a 70 percent chance of at least 1 inch of rainfall in cities including Fargo, Valley City, and Fergus Falls through Saturday morning. Rain chances will extend northward, though amounts are expected to taper to around 40 percent or lower near Grand Forks, Bemidji, Devils Lake, and northwest Minnesota later in the week.

Communities near Bemidji, Roseau, and Baudette may see the heaviest rainfall arrive later on Friday and Saturday, with totals potentially exceeding an inch in localized areas.

Drivers and residents should prepare for periods of heavy rain that may reduce visibility and cause ponding on roads. The NWS advises monitoring local forecasts for updates as the system continues to move across the region.
