Fargo, ND – A West Fargo man was arrested after allegedly leading multiple law enforcement agencies on a high-speed pursuit across several counties early Tuesday.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the chase began around 1:05 a.m. on Interstate 29 near mile marker 56, when a trooper observed a southbound Cadillac traveling at a high rate of speed near the Horace exit. A Cass County Sheriff’s Deputy was already in pursuit, reporting that the white Cadillac Seville was traveling at 118 mph as it entered Richland County.
Authorities said spike strips were deployed at mile marker 52, successfully striking the vehicle’s front passenger tire. Another trooper attempted to intercept the Cadillac near mile marker 54, but the driver allegedly continued eastbound at over 100 mph on 52nd Avenue into Fargo. Due to safety concerns, the highway patrol terminated its pursuit.
The Fargo Police Department later located the vehicle near University Avenue and trailed it to an apartment complex at 35th Avenue and 11th Street. Officers said the driver exited the car and attempted to flee on foot but was quickly taken into custody.
The driver, identified as Christopher Pankowski, 42, of West Fargo, faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension, DUI-related offenses, fleeing a peace officer, reckless endangerment, and an outstanding felony warrant from Cass County.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said the incident remains under investigation.
