Grand Forks County, ND – A Hatton woman was seriously injured Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash on North Dakota Highway 15 near mile marker 122.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 7:52 a.m. when a 2014 Nissan Juke, driven by a 50-year-old woman from Hatton, struck the trailer of a 2013 Peterbilt semi. The semi, driven by a 71-year-old Hatton man, was turning right onto County Road 13 (22nd Street NE) when the collision occurred.
Authorities said the Nissan driver allegedly failed to maintain her lane and control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid the turning semi. The Nissan left the roadway, overcorrected, and collided with the semiโs trailer. The woman was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries. She was transported by ambulance to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks for treatment.
The Peterbilt driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash, according to officials.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported that road and weather conditions were good at the time of the crash. Charges against the Nissan driver include failure to maintain lane and failure to maintain control, allegedly due to distracted driving.
Responding agencies included the Grand Forks County Sheriffโs Office, Northwood Fire & Rescue, and the Northwood Deaconess Health Center Ambulance.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
