Bismarck, ND – A High Wind Warning remains in effect through early Wednesday morning across much of western and central North Dakota, where gusts up to 65 mph are producing power outages, property damage, and hazardous travel, according to the National Weather Service in Bismarck.
The warning covers a large section of the state, including Bismarck, Dickinson, Minot, Jamestown, Bowman, and the James River Valley. Sustained northwest winds near 40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, are expected to continue through 3 a.m. CST, gradually diminishing before sunrise.
Forecasters warn that these intense winds could damage roofs, small outbuildings, and signage, as well as knock down tree branches and power lines. Travel will be dangerous—particularly for high-profile vehicles—due to strong crosswinds on open highways such as U.S. 83 and I-94.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects and holiday decorations, avoid unnecessary travel, and use caution near windows. Power companies advise keeping flashlights and backup power sources on hand in case of outages.
