Upham, ND – A 19-year-old Bottineau man was killed late Saturday night in a three-vehicle crash about 10 miles west of Upham, according to authorities.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 11:45 p.m. Saturday on 80th Street North, just east of 17th Avenue North. Investigators said a 2006 Freightliner semi-truck was disabled on the westbound shoulder and partially in the roadway with emergency triangles and hazard lights activated.

A 2008 Dodge Ram pickup had stopped nose-to-nose with the semi to provide assistance when a westbound 2022 Chevrolet Silverado struck the rear of the semi-trailer. The driver of the Silverado, identified only as a 19-year-old male from Bottineau, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Dodge Ram’s driver, a 56-year-old man from Minot, and his 48-year-old male passenger, also from Minot, were not injured, troopers said. The Freightliner was unoccupied at the time of the crash.

The Highway Patrol confirmed road and weather conditions were good at the time of the collision. Restraint use and potential charges remain under investigation.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Upham Fire, and Upham Ambulance also responded to the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
