Grand Forks, North Dakota – Drivers across northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota are waking up to dense fog this morning, with visibility plunging to a quarter mile or less in several areas. Light winds and clear skies overnight have allowed thick fog to form, posing a risk for anyone on the road during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, patchy but dense fog will persist through mid-morning, especially along highways and rural routes across northeast North Dakota and portions of northwest and west-central Minnesota. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra space between vehicles until the fog lifts, typically after sunrise.

Highways such as US-2, I-29, and state routes in Grand Forks, Fargo, Thief River Falls, and Crookston are expected to see the lowest visibility. The minor weather risk (level 1 out of 4) means patchy dense fog could still lead to rapid changes in driving conditions. Local officials remind drivers to avoid sudden stops and check for any updated advisories before traveling.

Fog is likely to dissipate by late morning, but caution is urged until conditions fully improve. Further weather updates or advisories may be issued if visibility remains limited beyond mid-morning.
