Page, ND – One person has died following a collision between a BNSF train and a combine Thursday morning northwest of Page, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:59 a.m. on October 9, 2025, on 133rd Avenue SE between 16th and 17th Street SE, about five miles northwest of Page. Authorities said the combine was traveling south on a gravel road when it collided with the lead locomotive of a westbound BNSF freight train.

According to troopers, the impact caused the front locomotive to catch fire, and roughly 20 train cars derailed, spilling cargo into nearby fields. The train’s engineer and conductor managed to escape safely before the fire spread and were not injured.

Officials confirmed the combine driver died from injuries sustained in the crash. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Emergency crews from multiple agencies responded to extinguish the fire and begin cleanup operations. Motorists and nearby residents have been asked to avoid the area while crews assess the damage and reopen the roadway.

More information will be released as the investigation continues.
