Watford City, ND – Two people were killed and another seriously injured Saturday morning after a T-bone collision at the intersection of Highway 85 and 23rd Street in McKenzie County.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. when a 2013 Ford Fusion was traveling south on Highway 85 near Watford City. At the same time, a 2006 Peterbilt semi pulling a trailer was heading east on 23rd Street NW. Troopers said the Peterbilt allegedly ran a stop sign and struck the passenger side of the Fusion.

The impact forced both vehicles into the ditch at the southeast corner of the intersection. The Fusion’s front-seat passenger, a 25-year-old Watford City woman, and a juvenile passenger in the back seat were both pronounced dead at the scene. Their names have not been released.

The 24-year-old driver of the Fusion, also from Watford City, suffered serious injuries and was flown to a hospital in Bismarck. Authorities reported that all occupants had been wearing seatbelts. The 41-year-old driver of the semi, from Tennessee, was not injured.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is leading the investigation, with assistance from the McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office, Watford City Police, and emergency services. Charges are pending.
